DAMN AUTHENTIC, SPICY AND VERY TASTY KOREAN NEWCOMER

There is a new must try restaurant in town! At least if you love authentic and spicy Asian food, with lots of charisma, tradition and happy vegetables. Korean food in Copenhagen haven’t been the most frequent, or the most sexy, amongst paleo food, organic pizzas and chia porridge, but I can feel that that is about to change.

Ssam is the name of the newcomer and I warmly(!) recommend it.
It is not a restaurant where you get an uptight, fancy dining experience, but instead you get truly original and authentic food, spices that will create fireworks in your mouth, the world’s sweetest waiters, inattentive service, special Korean beers and a top atmosphere.
Korean food in Copenhagen has turned up its game.

Korean food in Copenhagen

I have tried Korean food in London a couple of times and have so fare been a huge fan! However it isn’t exactly booming with them here in Copenhagen, so I have never really gotten into it. So when I heard of this new vegetarian friendly, authentic, Asian restaurant I had to try it.

The food at Ssam is clearly made by people who know about Korean food and culture, and who knows about good gastronomic craftsmanship. According to the restaurant itself, the concept mixes a Scandinavian trist in its dishes. It wasn’t something I were able to notice, but I don’t think that is a bad thing. For me the best part of the whole experience was the intense level of authenticity, warm aroma and very Korean staff.

Happy vegetables and lots of tofu

Maybe another reason why I never really have gotten into Korean food is that the ones I have tried in the past wasn’t the most veggie friendly. This one however totally exceeded my expectations. Even though it is far from all the dishes that is vegetarian, a lot of the dishes could be made it – using tofu instead of meat. Tofu is a widely used ingredient in the Korean kitchen and certainly also at Ssam.

Try the wrap !

Which actually really is a sushi role. Kind off.. It is a bit hard to explain, but damn good was it. The vegetarian one is filled with walnuts and creme cheese, which isn’t exactly the ingredients I at first thought would think work in a sushi roll. But they completely did and made me crave so many more pieces than were on the plate. It was a fine size, I just swallowed them.

Even though I visited the restaurant on a Tuesday and they’ve just opened we almost didn’t get a table. I would therefore recommend reserving, if you just got in the mood for some traditional and tasteful Korean food in Copenhagen.
